So I’ve been MIA for the past couple of months and that is because I’ve been working with a few clients in the gaming industry. Working on rebrands and emote designs. This influenced me to finally branch out to illustrations and poster designs. So I recently setup an Etsy store. I’ve never really sold anything physical on the internet before so it was a learning curve and I’ve loved every minute of it.
So 99% of my work is based in the UK so I’ve never really had to think about domain privacy because it is included with .uk domain names through my provider. I thought it was the same for .com domains… oh was I wrong!
I’ve been using Sketch for a few years now and have not thought about going back to Photoshop since. I love using Sketch and it is so much easier to use and create amazing designs quickly.
Sketch is a powerful, professional Mac design app. It gives you the power and flexibility that you need as a designer. It is very easy to use and light weight, meaning you can focus on the important design stuff.
WooCommerce is a WordPress plugin. A plugin is an add on for the base WordPress installation. It allows the user to create an online store on their website. It comes packed full of features and allows the user to upload products, services or digital downloads to their website.
WooCommerce is the best online store plugin you can get for WordPress. It even has its own plugins available if you require your store to do more such as additional payment methods. You can simply install another plugin.
So it has been a long time since I posted something new so I thought I would update you on what has been going on at Wilde Media over the past few months.
We have a complete new branding and website design. I wanted to go for something completely different and fresh. The new logo design is a lot more professional and modern. (more…)
A lot of clients don’t fully understand what web hosting is and what it entails so I thought I’d write up a quick post to hopefully help that problem.
So to start off every website needs web hosting otherwise it would not exist on the internet. Your website has it own hosting and its own special place on the internet. If you don’t have web hosting your clients will not be able to see your website.
We are now in 2015 and it’s going to take me weeks to stop writing 2014 on everything. I hope that everyone had an awesome Christmas and New Year.
My 2015 is going to be busy. I have set myself some goals for this year and I will achieve them. I’ve also got a few New Years resolutions. At the end of last year I did take on too much work and tried to make everyone happy. I need to reorganise my work schedule and only focus on 1 or 2 web projects at a time. I also need to stop procrastinating and answer emails immediately. I would love to take on some big projects this year also.
It has now been over a year since I went out on my own as a freelance web designer. This post is a little late as I did go freelance in April 2013. It’s been hard to find the time to sit down and write up a post about my experience so far. Its actually been 1 year and 4 months.
My first year of freelancing has been amazing! It has had its ups and downs. Long work days, worrying about money and getting the work in. But I’ve been my own boss, working the hours I want to and having the freedom to work on the projects I want to. It’s so nice to have creative freedom on projects, of course there are some restrictions as the client still has a lot of input but it’s nice to be in control.
As I write this I am 37,000 ft above the earth on my way to Switzerland to visit my dad. Today is the first time I have flown on my own. I am one of those many people that have a fear of flying, I wouldn’t say it was so bad that I feel like I’m going to have a panic attack but it is there in the back of my mind. It took me a good few hours to book the flight making sure I wouldn’t have anything with the number 13 in it, I am very superstitious when it comes to that number.
I’ve survived 6 months! Yep I am now a fully fledged freelancer! I’d say the first 6 months is the hardest and most demanding. It’s when you settle into the daily routine of being your own boss and also learning a lot about yourself. I’ve learned that I can be lazy at times and I’m the only person that can kick myself up the backside to get motivated again. I have also learned that I know what I’m talking about and I am good at what I do, after years of doubting myself.
