A lot of clients don’t fully understand what web hosting is and what it entails so I thought I’d write up a quick post to hopefully help that problem.
So to start off every website needs web hosting otherwise it would not exist on the internet. Your website has it own hosting and its own special place on the internet. If you don’t have web hosting your clients will not be able to see your website.
You could think of hosting as a storage unit. Your domain name is the address of the storage unit and the storage unit is where all the files for your website are held. You also need to pay rent for the storage unit which is why you are asked to pay a monthly or yearly payment for your web hosting.
It’s not just big studios / companies who offer web hosting and domain names. Smaller companies and freelancers can also offer the services through a reseller account. This allows us small guys and gals the option to supply more services to our clients and to have more control over the website.
Prices for web hosting will be different from business to business this depends on the businesses reputation, the hardware they use and the services they provide with the price. I personally offer the setup of email address, yearly .co.uk domain name included, technical support, small updates to the website and website core and plugin updates.
If your web designer / developer doesn’t offer web hosting then it is always good to shop around and look at different web hosting companies.
I hope this post has helped. I’m always happy to answer any questions should you need further information. Just leave a comment below and I’ll get back to you.
